Scania L94 YN05 WKE – A New Life Through Preservation

At Northern National Restoration Group (NNRG), every vehicle we work with has a story to tell – and Scania L94 YN05 WKE is no exception.

This bus was kindly gifted to Rachel, a member of the group. While YN05 will not see preservation in her complete form, her journey is far from over. Instead, she will be playing an equally important role – becoming a donor vehicle to help keep three other Scania L94s in preservation.

Scanias – 5201, 5217, and 5220 – all require an ongoing supply of increasingly more difficult to find parts to remain operational. As many preservationists know, sourcing spares for vehicles of this generation is becoming increasingly difficult. Thanks to the arrival of YN05, we now have a vital supply of original components that will directly support the restoration and maintenance of these buses.

Breaking a bus is never an easy decision, especially when it has served its communities faithfully in everyday service. However, by carefully dismantling YN05, her legacy will live on. From mechanical parts to fittings and interior components, every salvageable piece will be put to use to ensure the continued operation of 5201, 5217, and 5220.

In this way, YN05’s story continues – not as a forgotten bus left to rust, but as a crucial part of our preservation journey. Through her sacrifice, three other Scania's will thrive, delighting enthusiasts and the public for years to come.

We would like to thank Rachel for her generosity in ensuring that YN05 found her way into preservation circles, where her contribution will be valued and remembered.

Here at NNRG, we remain committed to preserving the transport heritage of the North East, and YN05 WKE has now become an important part of that mission.
